Windsor, ON Category Safety Co-Ordinator

Responsibilities for the Construction Health and Safety Representative include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Provide assistance to the Foreman through formal risk assessment, offering recommendations promoting site safety.
  • Strong knowledge of local, provincial, federal and corporate health and safety requirements and legislation.
  • Assist Foreman with pre-job planning, including but not limited to, job safety analyses, and pre-job hazard assessments. Creating/modifying JSA’s as required.
  • Deliver on-site tool-box talks, and facilitate the training of personnel on Health and Safety subjects. Actively participating in discussions and providing guidance on safe work approaches.
  • Maintain a system of incident investigations, using root cause analysis, documentation, and standardized Haller Mechanical processes.
  • Implement and oversee workplace safety programs to prevent accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Develop and enforce safety policies, and Safe Work Practices (SOP’s)
  • Conduct routine audits, and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations. Monitor amendments and ensure on-going compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Design and facilitate safety training programs, including new hire orientations, equipment operation, and hazard awareness.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
  • Develop a site specific Emergency Response Plan.
  • Maintain 3rd party contractor management platforms.
  • Being visible in the field, and actively promote and encourage proactive safety behaviours including, hazard recognition and mitigation, near miss reporting, and looking out for each other.
  • Complete submit and manage WSIB claims, injury documentation and employee modified work plans.
  • Working within a team environment.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Represent Haller Mechanical in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Customer liaison regarding concerns.
  • Listening and carrying out instructions diligently, and requesting clarification when instructions are unclear, not understood, or the hazards are not identified or mitigated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-5 years of progressive experience in a dedicated health and safety role preferably within the construction industry.
  • A valid, full driver’s license and clean drivers abstract. DZ Licensed preferred.
  • Current NCSO or CRSP designation preferred
  • Familiarity with COR accreditation
  • Valid JHSC Certification
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with inquiries.
  • Maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information effectively with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Willing to submit a background check.
  • Work in challenging conditions (outdoors 8+ hours/day), and deal constructively with conflict.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the applicable OHSA, including the construction Act and Regulations, as well as WSIB Legislation.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Mechanically inclined. Proven ability to use hand/power tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent analytical, prioritization, and multitasking skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a steady paced team environment.
  • Must have the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively. Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand, walk and climb ladders, scaffolding etc. continuously is a must.
  • Must provide own steel-toed safety boots and PPE.
